I foster creativity by teaching and making artwork. Creativity is one of the most powerful and important characteristics we can possess. When we engage our own creative minds we can make the world happier, more beautiful and healthier.
I make small playful, organic, colorful art every day. The abstracted nature-inspired forms of my art encourage viewers to access their own creativity to think about and make their own associations. The size and the fact that I do them every day allow me to incorporate my art practice into a full life as a wife, mother and full-time art professor.
I want people to engage with art that speaks to them on a personal level. Instead of buying something to simply fill the void on a wall or match the couch, spending time, attention or money on art made by living artists provides an opportunity to feel connected to a creative person who contributes to their community. Before we spend resources, we need to make certain it is useful, beautiful, or meaningful.
I love nature and boldly curious forms. I paint or transform industrial wire, metal mesh, cast off paper and ordinary materials into compositions that aren’t easily identifiable but seem familiar. I hope that by bringing color and a bit of playfulness into peoples lives that they can experience the same kind of joy I get from making my work.
